Artist Statement: These paper sculptures of masks, birds, and anthropomorphic beings explore human psychology in contrast to the remarkable powers and mythologies that are often associated with the animal kingdom. I am particularly interested in the contrast between our internal, emotional worlds as opposed to what we project outwardly and how others perceive us. I use paper as my medium as it is light yet durable, and an age-old material that can be preserved or destroyed. This contradiction in the material is simultaneously inherent in the themes I want to explore of ego versus egolessness, nature versus nurture, the concealed  versus revealed.
